Pareto Chart
One of the basic tools of quality control. This bar graph illustrates the 80-20 rule (80% of the problems stem from 20% of the causes). On this chart, the values being plotted are arranged in descending order.
Poka-Yoke (Japanese Term)
Refers to a method of preventing errors. This is achieved by putting limits on how an operation can be performed by the end user in order to force the correct completion of an operation. This term translates to "fail-safing" or "mistake-proofing".
Preventative Action
Action that eliminates the cause of a potential problem.
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
Processes governing the entire lifecycle of a product from: conception, design, manufacturing, service and disposal.
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
Approval processes for production parts that ensure suppliers comply with design specifications and perform consistently within the OEM’s quality system.
Production Quality Management
System of technical activities that measure the attributes and performance of a process, item, or service, against the defined standards. See also Quality Control.
